How to Lubricate the Press Rod on Your Goodnature Hummingbird
If you're hearing unusual noises while your Hummingbird is pressing (sometimes a bang or knocking sound), it's often caused by friction where the press rod meets the seal. The rod can catch slightly as it moves, and the fix is simple: a little oil.
What to Use
We recommend a food grade lubricant. Our preferred product is Super Lube H3 lightweight oil, a food grade oil used in food manufacturing facilities.
In a pinch, olive oil also works. Just note that olive oil can build up residue over time, so food grade lubricant is the better long-term choice.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Turn on your machine.
- Remove the moving platen, then lower the grinder.
- Run the press cycle, and wait for the press rod to fully extend. Tip: you can speed this up with boost mode — hold the Press button to activate it.
- Lift the hopper once the rod is fully extended. This stops the press rod from moving — it's a built-in safety feature.
- Apply the lubricant. Put a small amount of food grade grease (or olive oil) on a towel and rub it around the press rod. You don't need much, just enough to eliminate the friction.
- Close the hopper and press Stop to retract the press rod.
That's it! You're ready for your next juice batch.
