How to Prevent Fresh Filter Bags from Tearing in Your Goodnature Hummingbird
FreshFilter bags are single-use, so an occasional tear is nothing to worry about — just pull the bag out, discard it, and move on. But if your bags are tearing frequently, there's almost always one culprit: the front press rack is installed backwards.
Here's why that happens, and how to fix it.
Why Backwards Racks Tear Bags
When the press is assembled correctly, the bottom rack and front rack fit together like Legos, leaving no gaps. Small interconnects at the bottom of each rack seat into one another and form a tight seal.

If the front rack is installed backwards, those interconnects can't engage, leaving a small gap where the two racks meet. That gap might not look like much, but under the full force of the press, too much pressure builds up where the gaps are, and this can cause the bag to tear.

How to Assemble the Press Correctly
- Place the bottom rack inside the press.
- Insert the front rack, checking the pin orientation. The front rack has small pins that are designed to grab the bag after you fold the top flaps over. Make sure these pins are pointing outward — if they are, the rack is facing the right way.
- Push the front rack fully down. The interlocks on the two racks should be firmly seated in each other. If you can see a gap where the racks meet, the front rack either isn't pushed down all the way or is installed backwards.
- Insert the platen.
- Load the bag. Push the filter bag in, fold the flaps over the top, place it in the press, and you're ready to juice.
