Pineapple Turmeric Wellness Shot Recipe

Pineapple Turmeric Wellness Shot Recipe

The Juice Box LV is just under a year old, and growing very quickly. A single brick and mortar juice bar operation in Las Vegas, they serve primarily “the locals” and offer an extensive menu —raw, organic cold-pressed juice, smoothies, acai and pitaya bowls, wellness shots, salads, wraps, vegan and gluten-free bakery items, illy espresso, and newly added…avocado waffles. Wait, whaaaa? A savory waffle?  Sounds amazing! Aaron Bradley, Owner & Founder of The Juice Box LV, said the demand for this new waffle is so great, they can hardly keep up! Obviously their ever-evolving menu is one of the reasons for their speedy success.

One of their popular add-on items at The Juice Box LV is the Pineapple Turmeric Wellness Shot and Aaron graciously agreed to let us share the recipe with our readers, thanks Aaron! When I asked him how they promote add-ons in-store, he said they really like to take the opportunity to talk one on one with each customer and educate them on the nutritional benefits.  To make this recipe, they grind and press the produce using their Goodnature X-1 Mini juicer, creating the highest level of nutrient-dense juice, and package the liquid gold in 4 oz bottles that sell for $4.95 each.

Health Benefits:

This small shot has mega health benefits, especially with pineapple, turmeric, and ginger being big anti-inflammatory agents. More specifically, the main active ingredient of turmeric is the medicinal compound, curcumin, which is known for its powerful anti-inflammatory effects and is a very strong antioxidant. Pineapple contains the enzyme, bromelain, which boosts immunity and suppresses inflammation. Gingerol is the main bioactive compound found in ginger that has been found to possess anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and anticancer activities. Combined they make a powerful little booster shot.

  • Reduces inflammation
  • Antioxidant
  • Boosts immunity
  • Aids in digestion
  • Cancer fighting

Recipe is made in small batches on the X-1 Mini and it yields about 3 quarts / (24) 4 oz. bottles.

3  pineapples (about 3 lb ea)
10 oz turmeric root
8 oz ginger root
6 tbl apple cider vinegar
½  tsp sea salt

  1. Weigh and wash ingredients
  2. Trim tops and rind from pineapple
  3. Add pineapple, turmeric root and ginger root to X-1 Mini; grind & press
  4. Mix apple cider vinegar and sea salt into juice
  5. Chill until 41°F
  6. Bottle & sell!

Pro Tips:

  • Grind and press in smaller than normal batches to avoid bag overflow. Fill X-1 Mini hopper and grind 3 times before pressing the batch button.
  • Leaving the rind on the pineapple makes it more fibrous and easier to press. The Juice Box LV likes to remove the rind because it affects color and they like a deep, golden-yellow color.
  • Adding black pepper to this shot will enhance the absorption of turmeric’s main active ingredient, curcumin.

“The focus is not just to serve the community healthy food and drink, but to be as responsible with the planet as possible”, Aaron expressed. They promote reuse and recycling by buying back their glass juice bottles from their customers for $0.35 per bottle (limit 6 per transaction). Plus, all of their disposable items like food handling gloves, trash bags, cold cups, lids and straws are all made from PLA plastic which is corn-based and biodegradable. As they grow and become more profitable, the plan is to give back even more to their community by partnering with local food banks and charities. The Juice Box LV is well on their way—they are already on the lookout for their second location in Vegas!

    1. Often times people invent similar recipes, since nutritional knowledge is well known. We should all be happy that people are getting access to good recipes!
